Employee Spotlight:

Many of you may not know our Controller, Kristy Burgess, but today you get to meet her. Kristy was born and raised in Athens, GA. Yes! Gooooooo Dawgs! Sic ‘Em! Whoo, whoo, whoo whoo, whoo! She lives there now with her partner, Rob and their beautiful baby, Wyatt. Kristy is also a mom to her two fur babies, Yancey, a Chorkie and Bella, a mixed Shar Pei. Kristy got into trucking after getting her Bachelor’s in Accounting and becoming an assistant to the Controller of that first company 17 years ago. She later became Controller of that same company and then General Manager. She has been with Freedom for 3 years as Controller. Fresh out of college, Kristy never thought she would make a career in trucking with an accounting degree, but she’s happy that’s where life led her. Kristy loves numbers, but she also enjoys the excitement of this industry. She says no one day is like any other; it’s always challenging and rewarding and that’s what she loves most. When she sees one of our trucks on the road, Kristy gets a sense of pride; recognizing she is a part of that team! Pre-COVID, Kristy enjoyed going to see live music, traveling, and trying new restaurants. Now, her favorite pastime is spending time with her son, watching him grow. Kristy also loves college football, so Saturdays in the fall, you can find her propped up in front of the TV watching our Dawgs play! In the Spring, she is growing vegetable, herb, and flower gardens and in the summer, kayaking on a river or a lake. Freedom is constantly growing and Kristy is instrumental in that growth!
