A Trucker's Life part 2

I had a trucker tell me when he would stay out 3 to 4 weeks at a time, he felt like he lived in a completely different world. Trips were measured not so much in days or miles but when he needed to be there for the load. Driving down the road watching families taking trips to who knows where, smiling at the little girl in the car passing him make the sign known universally as a request for the trucker to honk his horn, waving back to the little boy walking with his dad into the store pointing at his big rig, all while wondering how his family is, wondering what they were doing at that moment. “Being a trucker, you go from load to load and forget there is more out there”, he continued, “it hits when you lay down one night and know it’s time to go home and see your family”. Then he would for a few days. He’d cook out with his family and play games with the kids. He would plan a date night with the wife and take his dog for a run. And before you know it, it’s time to get back on the road. Truckers do this cycle over and over, some for many years. They stay out delivering needed products, go home to see their families for a few days and go back out for weeks again. This is a trucker’s life. You might wonder why they would choose this; why they want to live this way but it takes very special men and women to be long haul truckers. They pickup our products and deliver them all over this country; things like medicine, clothes, food, machines, car parts. Look around your home and see what hasn’t been hauled by a semi at some point; almost everything has. So while we may not understand why truckers chose their career, we are grateful they did.
